The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

Retired in 2007 from West Allegheny High School in Imperial, PA, after 37 years as the Physics/Science teacher there. Kathleen and I see a lot of our grandson, John Henry, who was 3 in March of 2009. My daughter, Melanie, lives nearby, while son, Chris, is in the Air Force serving in Italy and Korea. For the past couple years I've been maintaining a hiking trail along Chartiers Creek from Thornburg, PA to Carnegie, PA. At Penn State, I lived in Beam Hall in North Halls and it was a quick walk to the Creamery. I like the new one, and can't wait to get back there for another taste. A more shocking memory was of the murder of Betsy Aardsma in the stacks at Patee Library on November 28, 1969. I had been in the library hours earlier in the afternoon that day, and then heard the news later. Couldn't believe it. A fonder memory is of my roommate, Ted Lewis, losing his class ring in the snow of winter and then finding it again during the spring thaw. There were several times when I climbed the small water tower near Beam and sat at the top just contemplating and enjoying the view. There were also the many times when I hitchhiked from State College to Kane, PA, and especially Oakland in Pittsburgh to see my future wife. Memories of my advisor always mixing me up with John Curtis; Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, James Brown. Intramural athletics, Franco Harris.
